Translations | This series was born as a response to the paradoxical effort of conveying physical artwork to a digital form: from photographing to projecting onto a screen, each step is a medium to medium translation rather than mere reproduction. While documentation via photography is always conveyed as accurately as possible, the digital pictures remain fundamentally "other".

Thaïs took this visual erosion further in the Translation series: photos of past pieces are warped, repeated, inverted, and have their colors altered until the originals are barely recognizable. Fragments of the initial photographed images remain visible within these pixel reworkings, as if just lifted from the artwork's initial snapshot.

The Translation series was printed in collaboration with Atelier Esope in Chamonix, France. The vibrant colors and textures of the Esope prints bring the Translations back into the physical world, adding one final step to this photo-editing journey.
